Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can therapy help me?
Psychotherapy, often known as therapy, provides many benefits for individuals challenged by mental health issues and life struggles. Individuals have a safe supportive space to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings with a trained professional in a confidential setting. Mental health improves by helping individuals manage and reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder which helps reduce overall stress and overwhelm. Individuals learn to manage or regulate emotions. Individuals learn strategies and coping tools. Increased awareness through introspection and self-reflection leads to changing unhealthy behaviors. Relationships improve through communication skills, boundaries and conflict resolution. Individuals experience personal growth and improved self-esteem through therapy. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. Treatment is individualized based on the individual’s needs and the effectiveness of the therapy.
  • Do I need therapy?
If you are looking at therapy websites, you may already be thinking you need therapy. Please ask yourself if you are experiencing one or more of the following situations and if so, therapy is for you. Feeling depressed or anxious over an extended time Experiencing a significant crisis Unable to stop thinking about a challenge or difficult life situation Coping with a major life transition Grief or loss Family/friend conflict or estrangement Relational problem Substance or process addiction Control or abuse Flashbacks or ruminating about the past Desire to live well or Whole and Holy
  • Do I need therapy if I have God?
Therapy and faith do not have to compete. God is all powerful, all knowing and was present before time itself. We are made in His Image and He has designed the universe to effect transformation in us. Therapists can be that change agent. Jesus told His disciples, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I among them.” Matt 18:20. Therapy provides coping strategies to help us live well while faith provides a framework for belief, meaning, strength and peace. A Biblical example is God equipping Nathan to challenge and guide King David, known as a man after God’s heart, to restoration. Nathan helped David see he had sinned against God (and Bathsheba and her husband Uriah) and counseled him.
  • Do I take insurance?
I do not accept insurance. Living Whole and Holy Counseling LLC is a cash pay private practice. Payment is confidentially and conveniently handled through the theraLink portal.
  • Is therapy confidential?
Yes, therapy is private and confidential except in cases listed in the exceptions on the Confidentiality and Privacy Section on this website. I use a HIPAA-compliant email encryption for client communication and theraLink for tele-behavioral health services, a HIPAA-compliant platform with BAA on file. Electronic communication (email, texting, apps) is used for scheduling purposes only and does not serve as a means of providing services.
  • What is Online Therapy?
Online therapy (or tele-behavioral therapy) refers to mental health services and counseling that are provided via the internet or phone rather than in person therapy. I use theraLink, a HIPAA-compliant and secure video service for online sessions. You can use your computer, laptop computer, tablet or phone for sessions. All sessions are online unless discussed before the appointment with me. Recent studies on online therapy have found that it is “just as effective as in-person therapy” (Barak et al 2008). Flexible scheduling, accessibility and time management are benefits to meeting online. Some individuals are more willing to meet online than in an office.
